Ronnie Dean Hill, 78, of Des Moines, passed away on July 21st, 2020 surrounded by loving family members. Ronnie married the love of his life, Betty Ann McConnell, on March 16, 1963. From that union came 5 children, Ronnie Ray, Tammy, Steven, Crissy, and Tessa, eleven grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Ronnie’s parents were Orville Lee and Thelma Louise Hill. He had 16 siblings.

Ronnie’s life was centered around family, work, and living life to the fullest. He enjoyed being with family and friends most of all, but also enjoyed playing cards, camping, traveling, gambling, NASCAR, and teasing his grandchildren. Ronnie loved auto racing and liked nothing better than watching his boys race or helping out with the race car. Ronnie also enjoyed the company of his daughters and would do anything to make them happy.

Ronnie retired from Local Union Operators 234. After retirement Ronnie went on to start his own business - Hill Bros Asphalt & Paving. He was a hard worker and was proud of his work. He worked in the asphalt business his entire life alongside his brothers, sons, and other family members. Ronnie made many lifelong friends in the business despite having to do everything his way.

Ronnie is survived by his loving wife, Betty Ann Hill; his children, Ronnie Ray (Missy) Hill, Tammy (Mike) Lynch, Steven (Brandi) Hill, Crissy (Duwain) Scott, and Tessa Plym (Chad Lowe); brothers, Robert (Bob), Denny, and Orville (Gene); sisters, Linda Hernandez, Brenda Johnston, Peggy Houghman, Patty Inman, and Becky Hill; grandchildren, Alisa, Krystal, Megan, Maci, Brandon, Courtney, Kassie, Dohnovan, Lexi, and Addison; and many great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leland, Mike, Greg, Randy, and Mark; sisters, Connie, Janice, and Carolyn Gallagher; and one grandchild, Douglas Robert Hill.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2020. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
