Sally McFadden
July 19, 2020
Sally McFadden passed away on July 19, 2020, at age 79. She was born on September 11, 1940, in Des Moines to Frank and Alice (Sassatelli) Cervetti.
Sally grew up in Des Moines and after graduating from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1959, Sally moved to California to explore all the west coast had to offer. She returned to her hometown of Des Moines in 1963 and started working in offices eventually landing a great job at Massey Ferguson. Years later she worked for the state of Iowa and retired in her 70’s. Sally was an active member of the Sacred Heart Chapel at Mercy Hospital where she helped with weekly masses (10+ years) up to its temporary closing (due to COVID).
In her retirement, Sally was a close friend to many. Driving them to weekly appointments, errands and such. It was the highlight of her week. She was an active member of the Eastern Star for over 40 years and held many of the offices as well as Worthy Matron (more than once). She also loved working at the Iowa State Fair (15+ years) where she has the pleasure of meeting President Obama.
Sally loved to help and she will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and feistiness, as well as for her faith in Christ.
She is survived by her two children son Timothy McFadden of Des Moines and daughter Lisa Cervetti of Texas. Son in law Charles DeElena, grandson Reese DeElena and granddaughter Gianna DeElena. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 brothers George and Donald and sister Frances.

Sally and I have been long time friends...attended St. Joseph Academy and also lived at Mercy Park Apts. and attended Mass at Mercy chapel together. She was a giving person and also a caring person. We appreciated all she did each and every Sunday preparing for Mass and being a lector. May she rest in Peace. She will be missed.

Lisa and Tim, I was so saddened to hear about your mom's death. I'm remembering a trip she took with us to West Bend, to show my daughter the grotto, about 10 years ago. We had a lovely day and picnicked in the park after visiting. I haven't seen her much in the following years as I am rarely in Iowa, but I will miss seeing her posts. I know that she has rejoined the rest of the family in a better place. I am praying for all of you.

Tim and Lisa, I am very sorry for your loss. I know that you will miss your mother very much. I have so many great memories of Sunday lunches at Grandma and Grandpa Cervetti's house, with all of the family seated around the table. I can still remember your mom playing cards on the sun-porch and dancing to the radio in the kitchen. She was always styling, usually with some major poof going on in her hair. Now all of the four siblings are back together once again. You are both in my thoughts.

Oh my dear friend how I will miss our calls to each other since I moved to Nebraska. We had such fun on our gambling trips! You were one of a kind Sally, never forgetting a birthday or a get well card or call. Our last words to each other at the end of our call a week ago were "I love ya girl", little did I know they would be our last words forever. Tim and Lisa I am so very sorry for your loss. Lisa, I never got to meet you face to face but felt I knew you as your mother spoke of you lovingly quite often.

I met Sally in Eastern Star in 2004 and always enjoyed her company and her dedication to the organization that I witnessed. She made many friends and was fun to those who had the pleasure of her company. She witnessed many close to her be called back to God over the years and will be welcomed into her place in eternity with open, loving arms; there is no hate, anger or animosity in Heaven. Thank God for we are all sinners.
