Sonya M. Ritchie
July 18, 2020
Sonya Marie Ritchie was born on July 16, 1976 to Mary and Rickey Ritchie in Des Moines, Iowa. She was educated in Des Moines, graduating from Casady High School in 1996.
Sonya loved cooking, crafting, shopping, traveling, collecting angels, and spending time with friends and family. Her best friend Chrissy affectionally called her “The Sparkle Queen” because her personality shined wherever she was and with whomever was around. Many considered her to be quiet and reserved while she was actually very high spirited and lively. She loved to dress to impress and make others happy. Her love was unconditional. Whether she saw you often or rarely her value for family and friends was steadfast and consistent.
Sonya lived most of her life in Des Moines, Iowa but also lived briefly in Florida and Minnesota.
Sonya departed her life on July 18, 2020 at the age of 44.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Frank Evans, Lilie Mae Evans, Ronald Ritchie, and Geraldine Ritchie.
She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Mary (Mathias) Crawford; father, Rickey Ritchie; children, Rashaan Fedderson, Ryan Beard, and Raemoni; siblings, Mary Evans, Rickey Ritchie, Francine (Arnette) Cooper, Louis Evans, Tiara Diver, Tyrell Diver, Cody Ritchie, and Shyla Swartz; numerous aunts and uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends and acquaintances.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Sonya.
Services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery. There will be a reception at the funeral home after the burial.

I send my deepest sympathy to the family of my sister/friend Sonya. I have known her since she was a little girl. We have lived together, laughed and cried together. She is my sister Chrissy's best friend. My heart is heavy but my memories keep me smiling as I think about Sonya's beauty not just on the outside but her heart was absolutely beautiful. She was a
gift and joy and I will miss her terribly. I pray for strength and peace for her family and friends.
Rest in love my Sonya (Sunshine)
