Service Details

Isabelle Warning, 89, passed away on July 19, 2020, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, Iowa. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 19, 1930, to John Virden and Helen Walker.

Isabelle was known for her God given voice, natural and beautiful. That voice put her children to sleep at night, praised God every Sunday, and delighted the residence of Bishop Drumm Care Facility, where she too was a resident. She would play her electric keyboard and sing as residents and their families passed by her doorway. Her passion, and her joy was singing. She grew up during the depression, and a difficult time, that led her to work as a teenager in the hospital, to help support her single parent family. Isabelle, under her gentle voice of night time hymns, was a lady that had a voice when she felt unfairness or injustice. Always active in her political party as well as local government, speaking for those who could not. A lady of many qualities that will never be forgotten.

Isabelle is survived by her son, Dan (Jennifer) Warning and their children, Chad (Brandy), Brent (Katie), and John Warning; daughter, Rhonda (Randy) Ries and their children, Ryan and Reggie Ries; daughter, Janet Naset-Payne and her children, Katie Naset (Zachary Peterson), Adam Naset, and Jason (Tori) Naset; as well as seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy Dale Warning; her brother, Norman Virden, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th Street SW in Altoona, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family requests masks be worn and that guests respectfully practice social distancing.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Bishop Drumm in loving memory of Isabelle.
