Elizabeth Joyce Allen

Elizabeth Joyce Allen (Mills), 88, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on July 17, 2020.

Joyce was born December 10, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa, the oldest of 8, to Orrie and Doris Mills. She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and Lincoln High School. She married Ray Allen in 1953 and became a homemaker, mother to four children. Joyce lived for her family, enjoying cooking, camping, and most of all listening to country music. Joyce loved everything Irish and was especially proud of her Irish heritage on her mother’s side.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Linda Huss and Kathy O’Connor; son, David (Lauri) Allen; siblings, Margaret Conn “special Irish sister”, and James Mills; loving sister-in-law, Beth Mills; special friend, Annette Waller; friend, Karen Sanders; grandchildren, Jason (Patricia) Straub, Bradley (Kaitlyn) Allen, and Lindsey Allen; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Straub and Adalynn Allen; adopted granddaughter, Heather Sanders; as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Allen; parents, Orrie and Doris Mills; daughter, Diana Allen; siblings, Thomas Mills, Robert Mills, Katy Bucknam, Marie Kelley, and Mary Bensley; sister-in-law and best friend, Carolyn Allen.

The family will greet friends Monday, July 27, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Joyce will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery. Due to Covid-19, the family requests that guests wear a mask and practice social distancing.
