Shirley Beers

Shirley J. Beers, 80, passed away at Evelyn’s House on July 18, 2020, in Creve Coeur, Missouri. She was born August 2, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Argle and Georgia Cotter.
Shirley was a homemaker, dedicating her time and talents to her family and home. She completed many home remodeling projects, reupholstered old furniture, and made her daughter’s wedding dress by hand. Shirley was also known for her famous peanut butter cookies.
Shirley was an incredible wife and mother who cherished time spent with family and loved ones. She was united in marriage to Jack Franklin Beers. They shared a deep love and were inseparable until his passing in 2008. Together they enjoyed traveling, taking cruises, fishing in the river with other family, and wintering in Florida. Shirley also loved playing Bunco with her friends.
Shirley was a woman of strong faith and church was very important to her. She attended First Assembly of God for many years.
Shirley is survived by her children, David (Linda) Wolfkill, Debbie (Curt) Bobholz, Doyle Beers, Chris (Lisa) Beers, and Tammy Mayer; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Judy Hawthorn and Linda (Frank) Jackson; as well as her companion, Bill Tarrant. She was preceded in death by her parents, Argle and Georgia; husband, Jack Beers; son, Frank Beers; sister, Sharon Northway, and great-grandson, Stephen Fernandez.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home prior to services from 1-2 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in honor of Shirley’s love of animals.
