Robert Ivan Glass, 93, passed away on July 8, 2020 at Iowa Methodist Hospital. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA and the funeral service on Thursday, July 16 at 9:30 a.m. at The Mission Church, 12001 Ridgemont Drive in Urbandale, IA. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
Bob was born in Manchester, IA on August 11, 1926 to Fannie Mae (Moreland) and Jerome Albert Glass. He graduated from Edgewood High School and at the age of 17 joined the US Navy, serving during WWII from 1944 to 1946. After his honorable discharge, Bob attended and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and later attended Drake University for his Master’s degree. He worked for 34-years for the State of Iowa in the Department of Education as a consultant for teacher education and certification. He retired in 1988.
In his free time, Bob was an avid sports fan ranging from bowling to football, thou he was also a devoted Hawkeye’s fan. He loved the tranquility of fishing, and the many day trips that he and Carol took by spontaneously jumping in the car to just check something out for the fun of it. They also drove from the Midwest to the Western portion of the US following retirement. Bob and Carol were long-time members of First Federated Church, now The Mission Church.
This kind and caring man will be deeply missed by his children, Julie (Kent) Welsh, Janis (Dale) Hochreiter and James (Michelle) Glass; 4 grandchildren, Spencer and Erik Welsh, and Mae and Ben Glass. Bob was preceded in death by his dear wife of 64 years, Carol Jean Glass who passed this past March; his parents; and his brother, Rex L. Glass.

I met Bob about Jan. 20,2020 at our dining room table in Mill Pond, Ankeny, IA. We enjoyed many meals together & very good visits about times past. My prayers & condolences to the Family & Friends. Bill Hamilton

I have great memories of Bob and Carrol. They always welcomed me into there home and made sure I had access to the cookie drawer! I always looked up to them and how well they raised there family. They did a great job passing their values to there children. I will miss them dearly.
