Ross J Welsher
July 05, 2020
On July 5, 2020, Ross Jacob Welsher, 22, of Des Moines, passed away in a tragic car accident. A bright and shining light was dimmed much too soon. While he is no longer with us, his kindness and spirit will live with us forever.
Ross was born September 26, 1997, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa to Jami Davis and Rodric Welsher. He graduated from East High School in 2016 where he was an active member of the swim team. He holds the record for the 100 breaststroke and the 200 medley relay. Ross gave back to the Eastside community by teaching swimming lessons and lifeguarding at Teachout Aquatic Center. He also helped coach East Lightning Swim Club for two years under Coach Erin Lowe. After attending Iowa State University for one year, he then followed in his dad’s footsteps and was accepted on as an apprentice electrician with IBEW 347. Ross was devoted to disc golf and spent much of his time playing, as well as caring for and maintaining multiple courses. From a young age, he could be found on the course with his Dad and the disc golf community, doing what he loved.
Ross will be remembered by family and friends as a giving soul who would help anyone in need. He lit up a room wherever he went. His smile was contagious and bright. He loved his family fiercely and was a dedicated brother to his siblings.
Ross is survived by his parents Rodric Welsher, Jami Davis, Samantha Grimes-Welsher and Shannon Springer (all of Des Moines). Siblings include Cora Springer (Des Moines), Chace Besaw (Des Moines), Ronan and Royce Jockomo Welsher (Des Moines). Nephew Jaxon Martin. Grandparents include Anita Welsher (Des Moines), Jim Davis (Winterset), Norm Rosener (Bella Vista, AR), Bill and Barb Springer (West Des Moines) and Dave and Pat Schulte (Granger). Aunts and Uncles include Jennifer (Chris) McNew, Tegwyn (John) Smith, Shane (Karey) Schulte, Jared (Stacy) Schulte and Spencer (Natalie) Springer. Cousins include Anastacia Davis, Garth Gripenberg, Brady Smith, Tanner Smith, Bryce Schulte and Chase Schulte.
Preceding him in death are his beloved grandparents Nana Deb Rosener and Papa Ron Welsher. A celebration of life memorial will be held at Grandview Park in Des Moines (enclosed shelter) on August 1 from 11am-7pm. There will be a gathering for prayer and song at 11am. Bring your discs to play a round in Ross’ honor. Come and enjoy the park Ross grew up in.
Contributions can be made to the Welsher Family to set up a scholarship for East High School students in Ross’ name.
You’ll be greatly missed, Ross. We love you!

It is obvious from pictures posted this week on Facebook that Ross brought great joy to his family and his friends. Those pictures today bring tears and broken hearts. Prayers for comfort so that looking at them as time passes brings back the joy shown when the pictures were taken. I am so very sorry for your family for the loss of this young man. It is evident Ross gave love to others and and was shown great loyalty and love by those who cared for him so very much!. God bless you all!
