John D. Hanson
June 29, 2020
On Monday, June 29, 2020, John Hanson, loving husband, son, and brother passed away at the age of 43. John was born on January 12, 1977, in Des Moines, Iowa to Craig and Connie Hanson. He lived his whole life on the East Side of Des Moines. He loved to party and was always the last one standing. John’s greatest pleasure in life was his family and friends. He was an amazing older brother. He loved his little brother, Jeremy, and the two were always together. Later in life, he married Vett Merrill and made her Mrs. Hanson. She was his true love and he never wanted to let her go.
He had a son (step) named Shane who, with Vanessa, gave them three wonderful granddaughters, Mariah, Aylse (Gattor), and Lana. John adored them and babysat them often. They had him wrapped around their little fingers.
He is survived by his father, Craig and his mother, Connie; his loving wife, Vett; her son, Shane (Carrie); his son, Austin (Charity); his brother, Russell (Rusty) Hanson; his brother, Jeremy (Stephanie); his granddaughters; his grandmother, Eleanor Hanson; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his Beloved Dog, Snickers. He was preceded in death by both his grandfathers, several uncles, and his grandmother, Marlene Joyce (Nelson) Nichelson.
His Celebration of Life will be at his parents’ home at 1606 Searle Street, Des Moines, Iowa on July 11, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will be outside in the front yard. You are welcome to drive by and honk or flash lights for his parents. Also you can put signs in the yard or cards on the table. Please bring your masks, your smiles and stories of John.
