Toune Jim Baccam, age 77, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at his home in Des Moines surrounded by his family.

Toune was born November 10, 1942 in Dien Bien Phu, Vietnam to Houy Baccam and La Lo Thi Baccam. He was educated in Laos, Vietnam. He served with the United States as a Combat Green Beret in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Following the war, he worked with the embassy in Laos as a staff member. He came to the U. S. and settled in the Ottumwa area. He worked as a steel worker, a landscaper, and for Hormel Meat Packing while living in Ottumwa. He then worked for Pella Windows in Pella, Iowa, retiring in 2006.

Toune volunteered much of his time. He did volunteer cleanup at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ottumwa and many other cemeteries in the area. His faith was very important to him and he was a devout Catholic. Toune was a jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed fishing in his free time. He loved his family and enjoyed being around them. He was known for his dry sense of humor. Toune was also a member of the Kadsan Society.

He is survived by his wife, Ieo Baccam, seven sons, two daughters, several grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, seven sisters, two brothers, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Toune was preceded in death by his parents.
