Carl was born in Hampton, Iowa, on May 4, 1930, to Leslie James and Emily Ethel (Murrow) Seiberling. He was the seventh of nine children. When he was very young, the family settled in Mitchellville, Iowa, where Carl graduated from high school just after his 17th birthday. On July 4, 1948, he met the love of his life, Hazel Riddle, and they were married June 12, 1949. They were blessed with five children: Carlene (Tom) Chebuhar, Donna, Texas; Evelyn (Randy) Worth, Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Steven Seiberling, Windsor Heights, Iowa; Dianna (Mike) Leete, Ashford, Alabama; and James (Linda) Seiberling, Mingo, Iowa. They have eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Carl was very active in his church, the Masonic Lodge, and retired from John Deere Des Moines Works in 1987. After retirement, he and Hazel wintered in Alamo, Texas, for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Hazel, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Floyd (Dona) Seiberling, Mitchellville, Iowa, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Emily, six brothers, Melvin, Gordon, Don, Jim, Ernie, and Dale, and sister Eolian (Oley) Griffith.
Thank you to the nurses and staff at Valley View Village, where he lived for the past several years. Also, thank you to Kavanagh House for the loving care they provided.
The family welcomes donations to Special Olympics Iowa as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers.

So so sorry for your families loss. Carl was a down to earth, common sense kind of guy. One time I remember shoveling pea gravel out of the back a dump truck for the day care playground at the back of the church and he suggested that I take 2 shovels full and hed take 1 and then laughed that distinctive laugh. Then it was the first time I heard this jaw dropping, eye opening, 5 octave lower, well at least 2 octaves lower bass voice coming from behind me. It was Carl! Then well never forget Carl and his great smile coming around the curve driving that huge John Deere tractor on WHOs tractor across Iowa! His legacy his family. Your loss is Heavens gain. Remember the past and cherish your memories as we will of Carl.
