Valerie Meyer
June 14, 2020
Valerie Lynn Meyer, 49, died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, June 14, 2020. She was born August 6, 1970 to Verdis and LaDonna (Bosch) Meyer in Worthington, Minnesota and was raised in Ankeny, Iowa.
Valerie graduated from Ankeny High School. She had many jobs that she loved including candy striping, waitressing, and hotel reception. She was currently loving her job at the Holiday Inn Express in Altoona working the front desk.
Valerie had an imagination that couldn’t be beat. She loved chocolate, her favorite being Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. She was known to have various stashes in her home, car, and especially her purse. Valerie spent many a weekend watching Nascar, rooting for her favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and her favorite football teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Valerie’s true passion was raising her children. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and her family. She leaves them with so many memories of playing games, family outings, and watching her favorite tv shows, especially The Golden Girls.
Valerie is survived by her children, Emily (Tim) Morey, Andrew Hopper, and Kayla “Sunshine” Hopper; grandchildren, Ethan, Allyson, Ebony, and one on the way; mother, LaDonna (Wesley) Jarnagin; father, Verdis (Cheryl) Meyer; siblings, Lanee (Joe) Duckert, Randy (Dawne) Meyer, and Beth Baker; nieces and nephews, Kelsie, Kasie, Katie, Samantha, Austin, Dalton, Audrie, Taylor, and RayAnn; many great nieces and nephews; a half-brother from Omaha, NE and so many other beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Andrew and Jeanette Bosch; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Emily Meyer; and a grandchild that she just had to be the first to hold.
Family will greet friends from 11 am to 1 pm Thursday June 18, 2020 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona. Her funeral service will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home with interment at Altoona Cemetery.
