Klaus Franz Waschewski, age 78, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020.

Klaus was born December 14, 1941 in Königsberg, Germany to Karl and Anna (Unterspam) Waschewski. In 1952 his family immigrated to the United States where they were sponsored by a family in Montana. Klaus was very intelligent and learned English from reading comic books. He lived in the Des Moines area since middle school and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Klaus enlisted in the Navy following graduation.

On June 20, 1964, Klaus married the love of his life, his wife and favorite dancing partner, Sally. They shared many years of devotion and love until her passing in May of 2013, one month shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. He worked for Clark Peterson Plumbing for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors and liked fishing, spending time at their house on Lake Rathbun, and gardening.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie Lewis (Eric Lloyd); grandchildren, Katrina Lloyd, Sara Hill (Garrett), Esence Lloyd, DeAndre Lloyd (Paul), Michael Bell, Terrell Harris, William Carr, Jaron Lloyd, and Reeva Bell; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Izeyah, Elijah, Uriyah, Tayvon, Aliyah, Armani, Amyah, MarMar, and Andre; sister, Waltraut Donahoe; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Klaus was loved by all and was a beloved grandpa to many.

Klaus was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sally.

According to Klaus’ wishes, cremation will occur and there will be no formal services at this time. He will be laid to rest at Lincoln Cemetery in Polk City at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Klaus.
