Robert L. Baker, 83, died peacefully Friday, April 24, 2009 at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House in Des Moines. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th St. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.
Bob was born March 30, 1926 in Des Moines to Mary and James Avra Baker. He was in the United States Navy, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a parts manager for Chrysler/Plymouth. He enjoyed country and big band music, watching the Cubs, Dodgers, and Celtics, fishing, wintering in Arizona and especially spending time with his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Lois; his children: Linda (Mick) Chumbley, Bob (Lori) Baker, and Lorraine (Randy) Navin; 6 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his brothers: Don Baker of Michigan and Warren Baker of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, and his granddaughter Chelsey.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House in loving memory of Robert.

Dan told me about your father...I was deeply saddened to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with you. I lost my mom in February so I understand what you are going through. When I viewed Bob's picture, a lot of good memories came flooding back. Hold tight to your memories, they will give you comfort.

Dearest Aunt Lois, Linda, Bobby, Lorraine and families,
I am so sorry to hear about uncle Bob's passing. I was so thankful to be able to have seen him and have such a wonderful visit while he was still able to know us. He will be deeply missed by all who ever knew him and I pray that your wonderful memories will outshine the sadness soon. If you ever want or need anything that I could help you with please call me right away because I would be proud to do whatever I could do for any of you.

To Lois, Linda, Bob, and Lorraine,
I was saddened to hear the news about Bob. I always remembered him as a heck of a nice guy and someone who truly enjoyed live music in his basement, backyard barbecues, and homemade ice cream. He served our nation during the most crucial time in its history and afterwards, created a wonderful and loving family. My thoughts go out to the family and I wish that you all find comfort in one another.
