Evan George Oppman
May 10, 2020
Evan George Oppman was born on September 4, 2017, to Nathan and Joy Oppman. He filled this world with the laughter, silliness, and joy that only a child can share. He rounded out the family of four, and became a wonderful little brother to Henry Oppman.
In October 2018, at 13 months of age, Evan’s world became filled with hospital visits, IV lines, needle pokes, and endless medications when he was diagnosed with Stage IV, High Risk Neuroblastoma. Through it all he was a happy warrior, but his body was unable to defeat his cancer. He was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Mother's Day, May 10th, at 8:05 am. He will be forever missed by his loving family. He is survived by his grandparents, Kevan and Jeanne Barley, Darren and Jill Oppman, and countless other family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, and great grandparents.
Our family would like to thank the Medical and Child Life teams at the Blank Children's Cancer and Blood Disorder Center, the Blank Children's Hospital, and the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. We are also inexpressibly grateful for the unwavering support provided along this journey to our family by the members of Urbandale Baptist Church. There were many organizations that also assisted us, but we want to extend a special thanks to the Tori's Angels Foundation, The Ronald McDonald House, the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Iowa, and Alex's Lemonade Stand for their significant contributions to our treatment journey.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2020 at Urbandale Baptist Church, 6501 Aurora Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16th at the church followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Evan’s Memorial Fund at Urbandale Baptist Church or Blank Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorder Center in loving memory of Evan.
Condolences may be expressed on Evan's Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/evans.treatment.updates or at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

What a precious tribute to a very special boy! We watched the service, and it was very obvious that Gods grace is sufficient. We are praying for you in the days ahead when you will feel the loss of your precious son. God is so good!

Our prayer was that God would give you both a special measure of His Grace to get you through this trial, and that He would be honored and glorified in Evan's Memorial Service. Our hearts were deeply touched by both of your tributes to your little boy. Your love for God, and your acceptance of His will for your family was so sweetly evident. Our hearts grieve with you all, but we rejoice that little Evan no longer suffers. The theme for the service, "God is good", so aptly fits with how you live your lives. Please know that we are keeping you all in our prayers in the days and weeks to come. We love you all.

Lifting you and your family up in prayer. Happy for the joy Evan brought . Even though I never met him, I could tell he blessed all who were a part of his life. May you have the peace and comfort of our Lord in knowing that you will all be together again.

Eternal God, you have shared with us the life of Evan. Before Evan was ours, Evan is yours. For all that Evan has given us to make us what we are, for all of Evan which lives and grows in each of us, and for Evan's life that in your love will never end, we give you thanks. As now we have offered Evan back into your arms, comfort us in our loneliness, strengthen us in our weakness, and give us courage to face the future unafraid. Draw those of us who remain in this life closer to one another, make us faithful to serve on another, and give us to know that peace and joy which is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
May you experience the abundant measure of God's comforting grace both now and in all your days ahead. Thank God for the promise of eternal joy in heaven when we are reunited with all those who go before us! Evan is safe in the arms of Jesus - thank God for the reality of heaven to be gained for those of us who remain. Our prayers continue with you in all your days ahead! Blessings and peace through Christ - Terry and Diana

My heart is filled with sadness hearing this news. My prayers are with Evan and all the family. Jesus will hold him dear until his family can see and be with him again in heaven. My prayers are with the family during this very sad time and for time following as you grieve for your child. Such a beautiful boy. I never had the honor to meet little Evan, but my Aunt Delores, Evan's Great Grandma talked about him all the time.
Sincerely

Our hearts were sad when we heard of Evan's passing. Many tears were shed along with you, sad ones because of your loss but happy ones knowing that he is with Jesus and is no longer struggling. Happy ones because we know this is not the end we have a promise from our heavenly Father that we will see him again. Thank You Jesus. Our prayers continue for you as you travel down this road.
