Michael Allen Thompson, 67, was born July 24, 1952 in Des Moines, the son of Marvin “Tom” and Colleen (Murphy) Thompson. He passed away peacefully Thursday, May 7, 2020.
Mike was a member of the IBEW Local 347 and retired from his son’s company, Premier Electric of Iowa, after many years of dedicated service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mike enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii with his family and friends. He was an outdoorsman who used to hunt and fish, as well as an avid NASCAR, New York Yankees and Minnesota Vikings fan. He and his wife Toni rode RAGBRAI for many years together. Mike was a member of the Elks Lodge #98 and enjoyed his brotherhood with his fellow friends. Above all else, he was a family man and treasured time spent with his grandchildren, especially cheering them on at their many activities.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Toni Thompson; children, Todd (Kim) Thompson and Tia (DJ) Wolett; grandchildren, Gavin Fedosa, Rylee Thompson, Jake Thompson and Matthew Thompson; great-grandson, Kyler Fedosa; sisters, Pam (Al) Moreland and Missy Thompson (Eric); mother-in-law, Roberta Forret; other loving relatives and many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robin Thompson and his father-in-law, Don Forret.
Memorial Service will be held July 24, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter. Celebration of Life at Elks Lodge #98 in Pleasant Hill at 11:30am.

Dear Toni: My Love and prayers to you and your family. I know how special your and Mike's relationship was, you always spoke so highly of him and your times together. My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to all of my cousins. I love y'all so, so much & my heart is breaking for y'all. I think I'm still in shock. I'll never forget Mike nor the summer we spent together when Dad & I came to visit and the van broke down. Please if y'all need ANYTHING at all, don't hesitate to reach out to me. Mike ~ like our brother. Were thankful for 42+ years of wonderful memories, and great times spent together. So many moments filled with laughter, travels, stories, family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with many. You will surely be missed. But always remembered. Love you.
