Joseph Digranes

Joseph Warren Digranes, 76, died peacefully in his home on May 6, 2020.

Joe was born and raised in Des Moines by Osie and Dorothea Digranes, attending East High School and Drake University. He delivered furniture for the Younkers Store for Homes for 20 years. Known for his sarcastic and witty sense of humor, Joe was an animal lover who had four cats he cared for like his children and fed the birds in his backyard daily. He enjoyed live music and watching all sports and loved to talk about his grandchildren, who called him Poppy. He was an avid traveler, journeying to Europe, Asia, Australia, and most notably Antarctica, in which he endured the roughest sea waters on Earth, the Drake Passage. In his younger years, he enjoyed canoeing and fishing with his friends in Canada every year.

Joe is survived by his wife, Saunie Digranes; daughter, Kristin Thomas; grandchildren, Tucker Thomas, Mia Thomas, and Zoey Veldhouse; and sister, Kristine Winters.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jon Digranes and sister, Sonya Mahood.

No services are scheduled at this time. A celebration of life will be forthcoming.

We knew Joe and Saunie for nearly fifty years. All the old nights
with our whole families watching
Saturday Night Live and having pizza and beer and pop.

Great times watching all of our children grow.

We will always value Joes humor,
intelligence, and friendship.

Saunie, we will always love you
and your children and grandchildren.

Some bonds last forever.
