Charles Young
May 04, 2020
Charles Edward Young, 65, passed away May 4, 2020 at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa.
Charles was born November 13, 1954 in Tupelo, MS. He served in the US Army and had a career as a culinary chef. Charles was a simple man who enjoyed the pleasures of life. He always let you know where he stood with him. Faithfully attending his NA and AA meeting was very important to him. “One day at a time” was the motto he would say to those he would meet to give encouragement. Charles liked to listen to music and watch sports, especially football and basketball. Family was most important to him. He especially cherished his grandchildren. He loved going to Tupelo for visits and sending little “care packages of snacks” to the grandkids.
Left to mourn his loss is his daughter, Angela Young (Omar Adams) Tupelo, MS; his mother, Christine Sullivan, Tupelo, MS; grandchildren, Anecia Harris, Aysia Harris, Alexis Armstrong, and Anterion Venson all of Tupelo, MS; sister, Janet Holland, Tupelo, MS; and brother, John Sullivan, Birmingham, AL.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd Sullivan, Sr., Dennis Sullivan, Vincent Sullivan, and great-grandson, Hayden Thomas.

Angela,
I meet Charles 40 years ago working at the Iowa Jewish Home. Boy he was a treasure to work with!
And everyone loved him. Also he was a great dancer! A bunch of us would go out dancing sometimes after work!
Well anyway, I would run into Charles, over the years, and you and the grandkids was all he ever talked about! When you Graduated from college! Charles, let the world knew!
Over the years, we would talk and he would tell me about his about his health.
But don't be sad, Charles, is free of pain and no more suffering!
I'm sad also, and going to miss talking and running into him.
But most of all Charles, was planning on moving back to be closer to his family, I would tell him that Every time I seen him.. But he's there now!
God Bless and keep you! And remember , you're dad hasn't left you! Just his body. He's all around us.
