Charles Young
May 04, 2020
Charles Edward Young, 65, passed away May 4, 2020 at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa.
Charles was born November 13, 1954 in Tupelo, MS. He served in the US Army and had a career as a culinary chef. Charles was a simple man who enjoyed the pleasures of life. He always let you know where he stood with him. Faithfully attending his NA and AA meeting was very important to him. “One day at a time” was the motto he would say to those he would meet to give encouragement. Charles liked to listen to music and watch sports, especially football and basketball. Family was most important to him. He especially cherished his grandchildren. He loved going to Tupelo for visits and sending little “care packages of snacks” to the grandkids.
Left to mourn his loss is his daughter, Angela Young (Omar Adams) Tupelo, MS; his mother, Christine Sullivan, Tupelo, MS; grandchildren, Anecia Harris, Aysia Harris, Alexis Armstrong, and Anterion Venson all of Tupelo, MS; sister, Janet Holland, Tupelo, MS; and brother, John Sullivan, Birmingham, AL.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd Sullivan, Sr., Dennis Sullivan, Vincent Sullivan, and great-grandson, Hayden Thomas.

I have known Charles for over 20 years. I will miss his fellowship, deep voice and great sense of humor, and him ribbing me about the Oakland Raiders! He was a good man that often spoke of love of his mother, his hometown of Tupelo and his kids and grandkids. I am saddened to learn of his passing but comforted to know he is in heaven. God bless!

Uncle Charles will truly truly be missed, from his smile, laugh & his humorous sayings. he would have you laughing like no other. Uncle Charles was full of life and lived it to the fullest. He never asked anyone for much, but was willing to give his all his heart was so so big. I am truly going to miss talking to him, laughing with him and just seeing his smiling face. You will forever be in our hearts. Thank you so much for always being there for me and my children. Thank you for your talks and keeping it all so real and honest. Farewell to you Charles. This is Jay, as you use to say little lex sister. I have known you for 20yrs now and thought of you more like one of my grandpas even though we are not blood related. Through the years I got to grow up with your grandchildren and you never made me feel any different. You were always an honest and genuine man. The love you show for your family is something I will never forget. I remember eating lots of beef jerky when I was little and I remember up until now that you still love to eat it. You are a great person and will in truly be missed. You are amongst the greats now looking down on us. You are gone but never forgotten. This is not goodbye but so long until we see you again. From The Gross Family with So Much Love! ??

Charles was like family to me. I have known him over 20 plus years and he will be dearly missed. From the first time I met him he would never bite his tongue on anything but if you ever needed anything he would do it for you. I know he is still with all of us in our hearts and minds. He will be missed but never forgotten.
