Gary L. Lundholm
April 22, 2020
Gary L. Lundholm, 73, passed away at the VA medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on April 22, 2020. Gary was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa and attended North High School as well as Grandview and Simpson Colleges. He served his country in the Marine Corps for 3 years and was stationed at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in California. Gary spent time living in Iowa after leaving the Marines, as well as Colorado, Minnesota, and eventually settled back in Iowa where he met his soul mate, Jane. They spent 34 wonderful years together, sharing time with their children, grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren.
Gary could make a friend almost anywhere he went, and if he didn’t make a new one, there was a good chance he already had one there. He had an unforgettable laugh, and an amazing sense of humor. He had a love for all wildlife and spending time outdoors.
Before retiring, Gary was an admired driver with Schneider International for over 21 years. Prior to that, he spent time with the Des Moines Police department, and a few other careers where he enjoyed spending time experiencing his love of people.
Gary was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, Marine, and lover of Christ. He will be deeply missed by all of those who had the opportunity to know him or spend time with him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chow Lundholm; his mother, Joanie Lundholm; and granddaughter, Lauren Burkhardt.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Jane Lundholm; his children, Tricia (Andrew) Beltrame of Johnston, IA, Kirk (Melanie) Lundholm of Stilwell, KS, Tiffiny (Scott) Gaskill of Urbandale, IA, and Nicholus Crow of Del Rio, TX; along with 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, JoLee Rice of Urbandale, IA; brother, Steve (Linda) Lundholm of Des Moines; and many, many nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA on Thursday, July 9, 2020 with visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. and the memorial service following at 6:00 p.m. Gary will be laid to rest at Iowa Veterans Cemetery on Friday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m.

Jane and Family -- I was so grieved to hear about Gary's passing. We were close friends at Harding and, at least, our first year at North. Gary was a great person, lots of fun, and compassionate. But, what I remember so well is his smile. I know how difficult these days and months are on your family -- I've been through it, too. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all. Take care of you.
