Joseph Allison
March 29, 2020
Joseph Allison, 37, passed away peacefully March 29, 2020 after a day of camping and doing what he loved – enjoying the outdoors and spending time with a great friend.
Joe was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on September 28, 1982 to Philip and Gail Allison. He graduated from Clarion-Goldfield High School in 2001 and later attended Iowa Lakes Community College, graduating with a degree in Construction Management. Upon graduation, he worked as a plumber in Spirit Lake, Iowa for many years. Through hard work and dedication, Joe enhanced his expertise and proudly earned his license as a journeyman plumber. After a career move to Ankeny, Iowa in 2012, he began working for Mechanical Sales Inc. Over the past eight years, he advanced his career to Sales Engineer and became a mentor to many in his field.
Joe met his wife Kelly in 2002 while attending college. They were married in Spencer, Iowa, where they resided and began raising their daughters, Olivia (11) and Avah (8). Joe and Kelly were also members of Bethany Lutheran Church. This past October, they celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary.
Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, but especially loved being with his two girls. On any given day, you could find him on the ballfield helping coach their softball teams, driving them to and from myriad activities, helping with homework, or just playing or cuddling with them at home. Just a few months ago, Joe drove several hours in a snow storm to surprise his daughters with their new puppy, Kai. Joe also had a passion for hiking, backpacking, being outdoors, and being on the water. The past few years he enjoyed several camping and hiking trips and was always planning his next adventure. He had the kind of smile and twinkle in his eye that made everyone around him know he was either very friendly (which he was) or about to joke with you (which he likely would). Although shocked by the sudden loss of Joe from our lives, we will always remember him as a loving and devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend.
Joe will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife and daughters, Kelly, Olivia, and Avah Allison of Ankeny, Iowa; parents, Phil and Gail Allison of Clear Lake, Iowa; brother, Jason Allison (Paula) of Boone, Iowa; sister Hope Jones (Tracy) of Wisconsin, as well as many many extended family members, friends, and coworkers. He was preceded in death by his cousins, Adam Benish and Bradley Blanchard, four uncles, and his grandparents.
A private visitation and service for immediate family will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kelly Allison to support the girls' future educations.
