Joann Fisher, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020. She was born to the late Gene and Adalene Parsons on June 18, 1941. Joann grew up in Urbandale, Iowa and was the oldest of eight children.

Joann married Alan Fisher on August 29, 1959. She was a homemaker and mother who loved to bake cakes and cookies. She enjoyed surprising her loved ones for holidays and birthdays with her personally designed cakes decorated for the occasions. She was also an avid collector of dolls.

Joann and Alan were active members of the White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow. Together they enjoyed the community and celebrations. They both enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, taking them to pow wows and teaching them about Native American culture. They always looked forward to attending their grandchildren’s events including dance recitals, baseball and soccer games.

In recent years, Joann resided at Luther Park Senior Apartments. She volunteered at the store and enjoyed the company of her neighbors.

She is survived by daughter, Niki Fisher (Aaron Henry); grandchildren, Parker and Abby Henry; brothers, Sammy Parsons (Phoebe), Francis Parsons (Marcia), Earl Parsons (Liane), Robert Parsons (Julie); sister, Karen Erickson (Frank) and sister- in- law, Marilynn Parsons. Additional survivors include best friend, Donna Daly, several loving nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Fisher; parents, Gene and Adalene Parsons; paternal and maternal grandparents; brothers, Gene Parsons Jr. and Larry Parsons; nephews, Forrest Olcott Jr. and Brandon Parsons.

A memorial service to share memories and celebrate Joann’s life will be held later. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Her love for God and the strength of her faith was evident in her love for other people who she always put first before herself. Phillippians 2:4.
