Dorothy A. Mortice

Dorothy A. Mortice, age 97, of Des Moines peacefully passed away April 4, 2020 at Ramsey Village.

A private graveside service will be held at Glendale Cemetery. A Memorial Celebration of her life will be held at a later date to be announced.

Dorothy was born July 7, 1922, to Harlan and Vera St. John. She married Thomas E. Mortice II on April 4, 1941. Together they raised four children. She enjoyed working at W.T. Grant’s Department Store in Park Fair, as a department manager of the men and boys department. She also worked at Holiday Inn on E. 14th Street as a reservationist. Dorothy’s other interests included sewing, gardening, and teaching Sunday school at Westchester Evangelical Church, where she was a member for much of her adult life.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Diana (Mortice) Coulthard, Cherie Mortice, and her son, Timothy Mortice (Laura); and seven grandchildren, Brent, Lisa, Beth Ann, Tom, Emily, Atom and Zach; fourteen great grandchildren, Madison, Meredith, Ian, Courtney, Lauren, Sydney, Avery, Ariana, Olivia, Emma, Addison, Tyden, Lena, and one step great grandchild, Rhys Thomas, as well as one great great grandchild, Elijah. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Thomas Edgar III, who died in Viet Nam in 1968, and her husband Thomas E. Mortice II, as well as her three siblings, Jeanne, Rich and Patricia.

We would like to say a special thank you to the nursing staff at Ramsey Village. We appreciate the care they gave Dorothy and our family for the twelve years she lived there.
