Brenda Marie Hawkins, age 77, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 3:37 p.m.
Brenda was born October 8, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles Sr. and Evelyn Wade. She was a loving, caring person who loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She was a foster/adoptive mother opening her home to many children in need. She taught English classes at Nash Elementary School and King Elementary School, and served as Deaconess at Union Baptist Church.
Brenda is survived by her children, Jean M. Hawkins, Tommy L. Hawkins Jr., Caprice R. Hawkins, Annett Hawkins; siblings, Louis Wade Sr., Charles Wade Jr.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, DeAndrea Hawkins; siblings, Harrison Wade, Irwin Wade Sr., Melvin Wade, Elsanetta Cherry, Barbara Wade, Ray Westen, Bobby Westen; and her parents.
Public visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by cremation. We respectfully ask for your cooperation in adhering to no more than ten people congregated at one time during the viewing.
