Service Details

Robert (Bob) Norstrum passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020, at his home in Des Moines, Iowa. Bob was born November 2, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to Lloyd and Helen (Anderson) Norstrum. Bob graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1955. He worked at Opex for 27 years, drove taxi cab in Des Moines, bartended, and helped at his late wife’s restaurant, the Big M Café, before retiring.

Bob had a great way of looking at life with a lot of humorous stories to tell. He always had a joke up his sleeve and a smile on his face. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and got together with old classmates every Wednesday. He also went to the surrounding casinos to try his luck and meet new people. You could also find him watching sports, car races and westerns on TV and/or logged in to his computer.

Bob received great news this year that he had been linked to a 53 year old son via Ancestory.com that lived in California. They were blessed to meet one another and talked frequently.

Bob is survived by his sisters, Maxine Meyer of Louisiana and Charlotte (William) Zilm of Colorado; son, Robert Brockman (April) of California; step-daughter, Sandra Maberry of California; grandson, Chad (Patty) Duckworth of Iowa; and many other family members.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia; step-daughter and son-in-law, Christenia (Ron) Duckworth; son-in-law, Frank Maberry; brother-in-law, Al Meyer; and his parents.

Bob will join Virginia at a later date at their resting place in Trenton, Missouri.
