Steven Heston

Steven “Steve” Roy Heston, age 67, passed away Monday, March 16, 2020.
Steve was born October 1, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert and Jean (Peterson) Heston. He graduated from Carlisle High School and earned an Associate’s Degree from DMACC in Tool and Diemaking. Steve was employed at Firestone as a Tire Builder for a time. He worked as an over-the-road trucker for many years, which he really enjoyed, before going to work for the Grounds Maintenance Department at Prairie Meadows. Steve served with the Iowa Air Guard from 1971 to 1977. During his retirement, Steve was able to fulfill his passion for bee keeping by establishing South 6 Apiary Honey. He was a member of the Iowa Honey Producers Association. Steve was an avid supporter of Hawkeye Football and a season ticket holder.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Rhonda; step-son, Alexander (Kristin) Swanson; grandchildren, Gavin, Ella and Scarlett; daughter, Michelle Heston; mother, Jean Heston; brother, Scott (Deb) Heston; sister, Sarlynn Heston; four nieces; multiple great-nieces and nephews; and his special little buddy, Austin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” Heston and his sister, Sheryl Heston.
Services will be held 2 pm Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project in loving memory of Steve.

Steve was one of a kind, I never knew where I might run into him; Old Threshers, Iowa State Fair , but mostly at the farm. I enjoyed talking to him and will surely miss seeing him next deer season and years to come.
