Chat Baccam, age 85, went home to be with her mother, sisters, brother, and father in Heaven on March 17, 2020. She was born on October 8, 1934, in Muang Muay (Son La, Vietnam). She was the 2nd daughter of Truc & Oum Baccam and was privileged to be the daughter of a well-known and respected family in politics as her father was a mayor for the city that was once Muang Muay, Tai Dam country.

Chat was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who is survived by her husband, Phong Baccam; children, Bounsoung (John) Baccam and Mek (Baysy) Baccam; and grandchildren, Vicky & Justin Baccam.

Chat studied and voluntarily trained in the military to become a parachute nurse for the French in hopes to rescue her country. Not long after, Vietnam divided and the French rule ended. She was a courageous and brave woman who was also the first Baccam woman to serve in the military.

Chat and her family moved to Vientiane, Laos in 1954. She continued to side with the French and chose to work as a maid for the French.

Chat was married to Phong Baccam on November 22, 1962. They were married for 57 years.

Chat and her family moved to the United States as refugees on June 20, 1976. She worked as a factory assembly-line worker for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, sewing, cooking, listing to music, dancing, and playing the taiko drum. She absolutely loved her family and pets.
