Richard Griggs, Sr.

Richard Martin Griggs, Sr., 93, was born July 5, 1926 in Whatcheer, Iowa, the son of Dwight and Josephine (White) Griggs. He passed away peacefully Saturday, March 14, 2020 at MercyOne Centerville Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.
Richard proudly served his country during WWII as a Radio Operator in the Navy. He was a former Commander of Colfax VFW Post #501. Richard was on the Volunteer Fire Department of Colfax, and was a Fireman and Ambulance Driver.
Richard is survived by his children, Richard Griggs, Jr. and Nancy (Michael) Grady; grandchildren, Martin (Sherry) Griggs, Cynthia Griggs, Kari (Mike) Staub, Joseph Griggs, Melanie (Carlos) Bialet, Carrie Grady, Kristal (Brandt) Wolfe and Ryan (Kaysha) Dotson; great-grandchildren, Lauren (Ian) Stuyvenberg, Courtney Griggs, Garrett Griggs, Kingston Griggs, Gabriel Griggs, Riley Dotson, Ryan Dotson, Skyler Bialet, Desmond Staub, Jasper Staub, Brooke Nelson, Aiden Nelson and Maddie Nelson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances Griggs and his brothers, John “Jack” Griggs and Phillip Griggs.
Private family services will be held.
