Elizabeth Ida Smith

Elizabeth Ida (Ripperger) Smith, age 97, passed away peacefully at Valley View Village on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

Elizabeth was born February 18, 1923 in Afton, Iowa to Michael and Kate (Frees) Ripperger. She graduated from Afton High School and married Gail Allen Smith. She was primarily a housewife, and also during her working years, a service worker for Calvin Manor, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed crafting, quilting, and gardening.

Elizabeth is survived by her children: Michael Smith of Bedford, IA, Joann Grier of Brownsville, TX, Eugene Smith of Portland, TN, Monica (Dean) Clarkson of Grimes, IA, Thomas (Cindy) Smith of Mt. Ayr, IA, Gayle (Chip) Thompson of Des Moines, IA, Calvin Smith of Des Moines, IA, Dennis (MaryAnn) Smith of Des Moines, IA and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gail, sons Norman, Bernard, and William, and her parents.

Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
