Michael Smith
March 08, 2020
Michael Smith was born in Des Moines on September 10, 1989, and passed away March 8, 2020, at Mercy Medical Center.
A leader by nature, Mike was the oldest of four and always looked out for others. After attending Lincoln High School, he went to work for Stanley Steamer for many years prior to working as a truck driver.
Mike’s true desire was to become a mechanic. Every waking moment was spent working on cars and attending car auctions. His lifelong dream became a reality in 2016 when he opened his own shop, L&G Auto.
Mike loved the outdoors and sitting around the fire. He was a big fan of drag racing and going to the Eddyville Dragstrip with his dad. He also enjoyed mudding, riding 4-wheelers, and attending PBR events with his sons.
Mike is survived by his sons, Landon and Gabe; father, Michael (Sheila) Wood; mother, Melissa Blodgett; siblings, Matt (Rylee) Smith, Jessica (Daniel) Hall, and Kyla (Brandon) Nachtigal; nephews and nieces, Parker, Emery, Isaac, Chloe, Avery, and Noah; the love of his life, Patricia Flores; Patricia’s parents, Maria and Pablo Flores; Patricia’s siblings, Inmelda De Avila, Victor Flores, and Adriana Flores Rodriguez; as well as many extended family members, the entire Flores family, and all of his work friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Norma Smith; paternal grandma, Betty Langman, and his nephew, Connor Collins.
A celebration of life will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at Grace Baptist Church, 112 County Line Road in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Mike.

First I want to express my condolences to Mike's family and friends. I want you all to know that I am praying for all of you and that you are all in my thoughts right now. I remember the first time meeting Mike at Victors Car Lot....he was very helpful in fixing my car. What started as him fixing a car for me turned into a friendship that will impact me for the rest of my life. We worked on many of my cars together and he taught me so much about cars and more importantly about helping others in their time of need! Jesus told us that the most important of us is a servant....well I am here to tell you that Mike was very important and helped countless people in their time of need....even in death he still was helping others! If we can take away anything from his untimely death its to always help others, always love, laugh and live life to the fullest so that way when we do leave this world we can hear the same thing that Jesus will tell Mike...."well done my good and faithful servant". May God hold you all in his arms and comfort you in this difficult time!

I don't know where to begin, except to say how very sorry I am for your loss. I remember babysitting Michael when he was a young boy. And then how he grew up and had a family of his own. He brought Patti and the boys over to see us, and was so proud of them! They were the love of his life for sure!
We had some car problems and he fixed it for Uncle John and I, and wouldn't let us pay for it. He had a heart as big as his bright smile, and would do anything for anyone.
Michael, you are missed already by so many of us who loved you. It was my honor and pleasure to have known you on this earth. Until we meet again, Fly high Mikey! Fly high. I love you!
