Delores Shepard

Delores Irene Shepard, 89, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at Urbandale Healthcare Center. She was born April 30, 1930, to Lyle and Ruth (Monroe) Squires in Turkey River, Iowa.

Delores lived most of her life in Des Moines and worked as a Housekeeper for more than 20 years. She enjoyed yard sales, embroidery, and crossword puzzles.

After retiring, she made Stonecrest Apartments her home. Delores was a member of the Stonecrest Kitchen Band where she played the washboard and kazoo. They performed during the Iowa State Fair parade and on the Bill Riley Stage.

Delores is survived by her children, Kevin Squires, Keith (Jeanette) Shepard, and Lori Carlock; siblings, Frank Squires and Margaret Russo; grandchildren, Angela (Rob) Dalton, Randi Collette, Tiffany (Jesse) Reed, and Katie Shepard; great-grandchildren, Darren, Dustin, Issak, Ashlyn, Hunter, Evan, Payton, Ryleigh, Canaan, and Levi; as well as a host of other family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Dorothy Brookner, Lillian Bartlett, Virginia Bennett, Juawan Gregory, Jean Archer, Clifford Squires, Pat Ruby, Lyle Squires, Jr., and Sandra Carter.

Visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines, with a graveside service to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Delores.
