Dale Edwin Helm

Dale E. Helm, 69, passed away on Tuesday April 7, 2009 after a difficult battle with lung cancer. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will occur 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Dale was born September 20, 1939 to Harry Helm and Mabel (Helm) Short in Iowa City. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1958 and served 2 years in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Jean Vola on May 10, 1969 in Numa, IA. Dale was employed with Allied Mutual Ins. Co. for 35 years before his retirement in 1996.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, Ceejay and Jack. Dale spent many days watching Ceejay play in sports and looked forward to those same days with Jack. He also enjoyed the outdoors and working in his well kept yard.
Dale will be missed by his wife of 40 years, Jean; his daughters, Amy Helm and Dawn (Chad) Edwards; grandsons; Ceejay Bolich and Jack Edwards, all of Des Moines; his four siblings, twin brother, Gale (Margaret) of Greenfield IA, brother, Richard (Leah) of Anaheim CA; sisters, Mary Louise Pickard of Des Moines IA and Charleen (Kerry) Greenwood of Dexter IA; mother-in-law Josephine Vola of Centerville IA; brother-in-law, Tony (Marcia) Vola; and a host of beloved friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; father-in-law, John Vola.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Dale E. Helm Memorial Fund.
His cremains will be buried at a later date.
