M. Joan Rush, 78, of Des Moines passed away on April 3, 2009 at the Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House from cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with cremation following. The family will greet friends from 5-8 P.M. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Joan was a longtime employee at Massey-Ferguson and enjoyed flowers, gardening and traveling. She was an animal lover and especially enjoyed cats. She is survived by her sons Michael Williamson of Springfield, Oregon, Denny (Kathy) Williamson of Des Moines and Marty (Lisa) Williamson of West Des Moines, her grandchildren Mike (Kendra) Williamson and their children Tori and Leya, Bob (Amanda) Williamson and their son Ashtyn and Nathan Williamson, her sister Barbara Dankanich of Florida, her nieces Linda Agnolucci of Florida and Jean Short of Illinois as well as her nephew John Zingaro of Maryland. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Rush. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League.

My thoughts are with you at this time. Your mother meant a great deal to my mother and our family. My mom always knew that Joanne was there if needed and they shared a similar self-reliance and strength.
Part of your mother is in California... around ten years ago, she gave me some seeds from her Queen Anne's Lace flowers, a bit of Iowa I loved. Because they self-sow, each year they pop up, dance in the breeze and always remind me of her.
