Richard Brockelsby, 69, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 5, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th St. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Floris Cemetery in Floris, Iowa, where military honors will be provided.
Rich was born November 5, 1939 in Walla Walla, Washington, the son of Leon and Golda (Crouch) Brockelsby. He was a United States Navy Veteran, proudly serving his country for over four years during the Vietnam Era. Rich retired from US West, now known as Qwest, after 33 years of service. During Rich’s retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, playing on the computer and watching television.
Rich’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 25 years, Penny Brockelsby; children, Kevin (Sheri) Brockelsby, Kelly (Jim) Barrett, and Kyle Brockelsby; step-daughter, Melissa Spurgeon; his beloved grandchildren, Kaylyn Barrett, James Barrett and Chase Brockelsby; brothers, Leon (Karen) Brockelsby and Gary (Gabi) Brockelsby; many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and special friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Brockelsby; his mother, Golda Boyens and his step-father, Mel Boyens.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the funeral home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Mercy Hospice in loving memory of Rich.

You and your family have my deepest sympathy, and my prayers.
I lost my both my father and mother in 2007, so I can relate to what you are going through. Fortunately our folks live on through us and in the memories of others. May God be your guide and strength at this time.
