April 04, 2009
Jeanne Louise (Ortlund) Shattuck, 88, was taken to heaven Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Taylor House Hospice while in the presence of family.
Jeanne will be remember for her quite and gentle spirit, love of God and family, and endearing sense of humor.
Jeanne was born August 24, 1920, to Minnie and Benjamin Ortlund in Des Moines. She graduated from East High School and was a devoted member of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Jeanne was talented in crocheting and painting ceramic plates. She was a wonderful baker and was known for her rye bread, candies and sweet rolls. She enjoyed playing the organ and singing. She had the world’s biggest sweet tooth and always had plenty of sugary sweets in the house, which made her popular with her grandkids. She loved puzzles and playing games.
Jeanne is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, John, their six children, Jim
(Tammy), Tom (Jeanne), Ray (Peggy), Karen (Gregg) Hatten, Nancy (Dave) Berg, and Connie (Craig) Anderson; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brothers, Don and Bob (Donabelle) Ortlund; sister, Charlotte (Jack) Vetter; and sister-in-law, Anne Ortlund. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Ortlund and sister-in-law, Eleanor Ortlund.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Taylor House Hospice in loving memory of Jeanne.

To the Shattuck Family - I am so sorry to hear of the the loss of your mom last week. As a child growing up in the Covenant Church, I have such fond memories of both of your parents. Days of Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Sunday Services and Confirmation - it seemed that your parents were always around and an integral part of what was happening at church.
My memories of your mother include her warm and caring spirit with a ready smile for all she would encounter. Positive and gracious and a wonderful cook who would share her skills at the many potlucks we would have at church.
It is comforting as Believers to know that she is in heaven, as the Bible tells us, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"
Our prayers are with you as you go through this time of separation, knowing that someday you will be reunited in heaven.
Sincerely,
Sue (Sherman) Arch
