Richard Simansons

Richard Simansons, 95, passed away March 26, 2009 in Des Moines. He was born in Riga, Latvia on February 20, 1914 and immigrated to the United States in 1950.
Richard retired from Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel in 1977 after 27 years of service. He was a member of the Latvian Society of Iowa and a member of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Aline. He is survived by his children, John (Janis), of Ormond Beach, Florida, Silvija of Des Moines and Richard (Dawn) of Arvada, Colorado; and his grandchildren, Katrina and Alex of Arvada, Colorado.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Unity Lutheran Church, 1450 E. 33rd St. with Pastor A. Leo Pelds officiating. Burial will be held at Oralabor Cemetery in Ankeny. Family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines.
