Richard E. Olson

Richard E. Olson, 67, passed away February 12, 2020 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Richard was born December 21, 1952 in Des Moines to Eugene and Rosemary (Wieland) Olson. He graduated from Dowling Catholic High School. Richard served in the Iowa National Guard for six years. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Richard enjoyed music, both listening and playing. He loved spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by his children, Swain (Toni) Olson, Shannon Olson and Shelby Newhouse; grandchildren, Ava, Cameron, Emma, Ricky and Logan; siblings, Nancy (Bob Eckheart) Olson, Cathy (Ralph) Fenton, Dennis (Angela) Olson and Eddie (Sharon) Olson; and a host of extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Rosemary Olson; his grandparents; grandson, Clayton Eugene Newhouse and son-in-law, Rick Newhouse.

The family will greet friends Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Richard will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
