Rita Galvan
February 06, 2020
Rita Eleanor (Campero) Galvan, 69 of Des Moines, joined her loved ones in heaven on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Hospice Taylor House surrounded by her family.
Rita was born March 23, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa to Nick and Margaret (Garcia) Campero. Rita was a beautiful, caring and compassionate woman. She welcomed everyone in her home and made them feel loved and like one of her own. Many of her children and grandchildren’s friends thought of her as a second mom/grandma who made sure they felt safe and always had a place to stay.
She enjoyed watching Iowa State, Chicago Cubs and reality TV shows. She loved all special occasions and made sure to celebrate them. Her grandchildren will always cherish how she celebrated their birthdays with a dinner that she would prepare. Rita was the matriarch of the family. Her biggest desire was keeping the family close during the holiday season and would look forward to hosting Thanksgiving every year. When it comes to leaving a legacy, Rita will be remembered for passing on how to enjoy and cherish every moment with family and friends.
Rita and Richard were married for 52 years. They were role models of what true love is during both good and difficult times. There are many memories of them dancing to their favorite songs at anytime and anywhere. They were together all the time and cherished each moment and one another.
Those left to mourn her passing are her loving husband, Richard; daughter, Michelle Galvan; daughter-in-law, Heidi Herron; siblings, Esther Galvan (Robert Rodriguez), Marlena Cipale, Connie Benefiel (Gary Cataldo), Mary Saxton, Nick (Maryjo) Campero, Santos (Marilyn) Campero, and Rudy (Karen) Campero; grandchildren, Donovan, Anthony, Nautica, Niko, Mackenzie, Richie III, Brady, and Rami; great granddaughter, Serenity; and a host of other loving family and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Margaret Campero; sons, Richie Jr. and Anthony Galvan; and grandson, Dimitrious Galvan.
The family will greet friends Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road. Rita will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Rita.
