Derek Daniel Jones
February 04, 2020
Derek Daniel Jones, 31, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
Derek was born January 4, 1989, to Regan and Barbara Sue Jones. Derek went to high school at Southeast Polk where he played baseball and football. His athleticism was easily recognized as remarkable. He was one of only three sophomores moved up to varsity to play in the state football tournament. Derek was strong-willed; he never met a rule he couldn't break, a boundary he couldn't push, or a line he couldn't cross. Although he was tough, he had one of those rare infectious smiles that just made you want to be around him. He had a kind heart and a sense of humor that would lift others up. Derek was a gentle father that believed in unconditional love. He was often seen dancing in the kitchen with his daughter, Georgia (Pup), while they cooked dinner together. He enjoyed evening walks with his family, and couldn't wait for the children to grow so he could teach them all about the fun things in life. Derek was one in a million and will live on forever in our hearts.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Kristen, daughter Georgia, son Liam, step-son Thomas, father Regan, brother Jon (Jessica) Lang, sister Jennifer (Jon) Rabbitt, nieces and nephews, Katelynn, Timothy, Tegan, Quinton, Charlie and Emery, as well as many aunts, uncles, extended relatives and friends.
Derek was preceded in death by his mother Barbara and his niece Jossilyn.
There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family through Go Fund Me – Dereck Jones Memorial to assist with funeral expenses.
