Claudia Lee Mann, age 75, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020.
Claudia was born April 22, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to Howard and Dorothy (Hartman) Petty, and was raised by her grandmother, Beulah Petty. She graduated from East High School in Kansas City, MO in 1962. She worked for Ma Bell, which later became Qwest, as a telephone operator, retiring in 2006. Claudia married Max Mann and they enjoyed 21 years together before his death. Claudia was very involved in her church and loved spreading the word of her Savior Jesus. Claudia enjoyed traveling with her husband, Max, and spending time at their country home in Leon, Iowa. After he passed, she immersed herself in doing the Lord’s work. She loved being a greeter at her church, making people laugh, and cooking and serving for everyone. Claudia was an actress at heart and took advantage of every opportunity to perform.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Huffman (Michael) of Searsboro, IA; son, Craig Gillen (Roxi) of Des Moines; grandchildren, Joe Brown (Jamie) of Pella, IA, James Brown (Katie) of Des Moines, Joshua Brown (Bri) of West Des Moines, Daniel Johnson of West Des Moines, Lindsay Gillen of Des Moines, Sheryl Moore (Jeremiah) of Des Moines, and Craig Gillen, Jr. (Magnolyia Kay) of Des Moines; step-grandchildren, Michelle Huseman (Chris) of Ankeny and Stephanie Watts (Ryan) of Grimes; siblings, Lanette Murfield (Jeff) Denver, CO, Jean Waggle of Cibolo, TX, Marlow Hartman, Marshall Hartman, and Bob Hartman, all of Denver, CO; and five great-grandchildren.
Claudia was preceded in death by her grandmother, Beulah Petty; parents, Howard and Dorothy Petty; husband, Max Mann; son, Steven Gillen; granddaughter, Stephanie Brown; and grandson, AJ Betts.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2020 at Berean Church, 5299 E University Avenue, Pleasant Hill. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni, Iowa after services.

Claudia is one of the most tenderhearted, beautiful people I've ever known. I know she is rejoicing now with all the people she had loved and lost, finally reunited. So happy to have spent last summer with her and Diane. Love you all so much!

I am deeply saddened by the news of my dear friend Claudia. I am honored and blessed to have known her for over thirty years. We worked together at Northwestern Bell, traveled together, cryed together, and prayed together. I loved her like a sister and she will truly be missed. May our Lord and Saviour comfort you during this trying time. I don't say good bye, i say good night my FRIEND, I'll see you in the MORNING.

Claudia was a wonderful friend. She always made us laugh. Her smile warmed our hearts. Claudia made playing Dominos a time of constant laughter. She will be greatly missed. We loved her.

Claudia was always out going,friendly,kind ,patient ,fun loving ,and Generous.
While working at Northwestern Bell telephone Co.Claudia was my supervisor ,mentor and became my best friend. So many funny stories and good times.
She was also quite the match maker insisting that I meet a young man that was a friend of hers .She thought we would make a great couple .Because of Claudia ,and GOD willing ,Dennis and I will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary this year .
Just one more reason Dennis, and I will forever ,and always have a special place in our hearts for Claudia.??
