Doris Rae Ackelson, 85, passed away January 31, 2020 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Doris was born March 25, 1934 in Des Moines to Virgil and Lucille Howard. Doris worked at Moran’s Cafeteria for many years. She enjoyed doing search word puzzles and adult coloring books. She cherished time spent with her family and cats, Sam and Sasha.

Doris is survived by her children, Steve Ackelson and Debra (Vince) Taylor; two grandchildren, Michelle and Hailey Ackelson; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved husband, Alfred Ackelson.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
