Virginia Lee (Ball) Yaw Shannon
January 29, 2020
Virginia Lee (Ball) Yaw Shannon was born February 13, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to Gerald Willis Ball and Margaret Mae (Brown) Ball. She was a resident of Des Moines her entire life. She worked for 10 ½ years at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, retiring in 1990. She went back to work for the Iowa Board of Parole until 2001. She was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church, Eastern Star, White Shrine #43, Harmony Court #5, and Rebekkahs Mercy #15. Virginia loved roller skating and singing karaoke. She had many interests, and enjoyed spending time fishing and liked to go dancing. Virginia loved her family above all else. Family get-togethers were a favorite event, especially when they were picnics or grill-outs. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her beloved family. She lived up to her reputation as a sassy red head and was the life of the party, always playing practical jokes on those she loved.
Virginia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the age of 88. She is survived by her daughters, Virginia M. Williams-Yaw and Margaret Yaw; brother, Corliss Ball; sister, Connie Smalley; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Pamellia Yaw, Deborah Conrad, and Victoria Kay Kendall Yaw.
There will be visitation for two nights at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. It will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 and also from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2020.
In loving memory of Virginia, contributions may be directed to Shriner’s Hospital or the New Testament Baptist Church.

I will miss her stories of the old days?? I wish my kids would have had more time with there great grandmother. Family is everything? To Gidget and Family: We are so sorry to hear of your Mother's loss. We know you will miss her terribly. Please be comforted in knowing she is joyfully reunited in Heaven with her loved ones who have gone before her. We know you are sad, but remember the good times and happy memories with your Mother and she will live on in your heart forever. Take care and God Bless.

Sassy red head is correct! She could rock those ugly uniforms we had to wear at Iowa Methodist. Heartfelt condolences to all family and friends.
