Jimmy D. Godfroy
January 19, 2020
Jimmy Dale Godfroy, 78, passed away on January 19, 2020, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 13, 1941, the son of Esther and B.B. Godfroy. Adopted son of Alan Lichty.
Born in Des Moines, Jimmy attended Des Moines Public Schools, where he met his future wife Susan at an early age and graduated from North High School where he was active in swimming, diving, and creative writing.
Jimmy provided for himself and his family performing a variety of jobs and filling several positions throughout his life. While he held many sales positions, he eventually retired from RR Donnelly in 1999, where he managed the lab, and was responsible for quality control, and hazardous waste disposal.
Later in life, Jimmy retired to Gravois Mills, Missouri and took great pride in his lakeside home where he could boat and fish at will. Jimmy’s contribution as organist, and his membership with the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldon, Missouri, endeared him as a beloved member of the community. He was known to gamble a little, but his joy was in making a deal. Local auctions and flea markets provided an outlet for him to exercise his “inner salesman”.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Susan Godfroy; children, Jay Godfroy, Megan Nealley, and Andrew Godfroy; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Godfroy and Jack Godfroy; as well as other loving relatives and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Alan Lichty, sister Janice, and brother Gary.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines. A private family burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Jimmy.

I am saddened to hear of Jims passing. I have fond memories of him when I stayed with you in Des Moines. I used to love hearing him play the organ, especially when I would visit him at the showroom in Valley West Mall.
I remember him as always being kind and gentle, but firm. And always with that smile.
Peace to you and yours.

Dear Susan, Jay, Megan, Andrew, and family:
It is with much sadness and sorrow that the NHS class of 1959 extend our most sincere condolences to you and your family at the passing of our classmate Jim Godfroy. Jim was well liked at North high school and was a good tennis player, swimmer, trackman, school leader, and cross country runner. Jim and I were on the track track and tennis team and in the life-saving class together and I always admired his skills as a diver and swimmer. Jim was always positive and upbeat and was so well liked by so many people. As time passed we lost track of each other and I was unaware that Jim lived in Eldon Missouri, where we happened to total our car about six years ago, but was not injured. Interesting how paths cross during each of our lives. It didnt surprise me that Jim was the organist for his church and active in his community as he was a very talented person. Our hearts and our prayers will be with each of you and your family in the days that lie ahead.
