Timothy Paul Duncan
January 10, 2020
Timothy Paul “Tony” Duncan, 63, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2020. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Gilroy’s in West Des Moines.
Tim was born April 10, 1956 to Mary (Metzner) and Lewis Duncan in Des Moines. His family owned Colonial Cleaners, which they started in 1950, and Tim grew-up helping at the cleaners. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and took over the helm of the business in 1997. He treasured the connections with his employees, customers, and the neighborhood.
Tim married Karen Doyle and the couple raised three children together. Tim was a devoted and active Dad. He never missed a game or activity and was often the chauffeur to out of town games and tournaments. He spent time with his children, working on projects with them, guiding them, lending his creative talents, and was always available to advise them. Super Dad comes to mind.
Tim was a jack of all trades. He could fix anything, at the least, he was not afraid to try. He had a brilliant and creative mind, along with a terrific sense of humor and sense of fun. He enjoyed time on his motorcycle, boating, fishing, listening to Blues music, and hanging out with the “Tonys.” He was a master griller and smoker with a creative bent, a devoted Hawkeye fan, and would tackle any project such as upholstery, landscaping, remodeling, car and machine repairs. Tim enjoyed traveling in the summer and plowing snow in the winter.
This hardworking and devoted man will be greatly missed by his partner of 15 years, Nancy Hotchkiss; his children, Jenna Knapp, Paige (Michael) Kloster and Lane (Bailey) Duncan; grandchildren, Ryder Knapp, Oliver Duncan, Niles Kloster, Graysen Duncan and Dean Kloster; his siblings, Linda, David, Kathy, Kay, Sue and Jeff; Nancy’s children, Leigh and Jim; and his many other family members and dear friends.
Memorials may be directed to the John Stoddard Cancer Center. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
