Catalina "Katie" Negrete

Catalina “Katie” Negrete, 84, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 30, 1924 to Feliciana and Nick Leon in Valley Junction, IA. She graduated from Valley High School and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Katie enjoyed cooking and watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Valley Tigers.
Katie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Frank; daughters, Annie Negrete, Kathy Laws and Toni (Dave) Crosby; grandchildren, Amy (Don) Portwine, Emily (Mike) Kasal and Katie (Jeremy) Moranville; great-grandchildren, Elisabeth Kasal, Camron Negrete-Wright, Kenna Moranville and Emma Portwine; brother, Bernard (Pat) Leon; sisters, Lupe Murillo, Toni Leon and Felicia Mullin; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Canuto Leon and Treno Leon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, burial will follow in the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter. Visitation will be Thursday, March 26th from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
