Alvie Bowers

Alvie “Al” Bowers, 69, passed away of pneumonia Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, 2747 E. Madison Ave. with burial at Vandalia Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Al was born November 17, 1939 in Des Moines to George and Gladys Bowers. He was a farmer for many years. After retirement, he worked at the WalMart in Ankeny. Al loved to fish and hunt. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them and having family barbeques.
Al is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet; daughter, Denise (John) Berry; son, Richard (Wendy) Bowers; sister, Pat (Bill) Stokes; brother, Don (Dee) Bowers; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Terri Lynne
