Ellen Beukema joined her heavenly family at Valley View Village in Des Moines on Friday, December 27, 2019 at the age of 96. She was born September 11, 1923 to Ralph and Dora Parker in Laurel, Iowa.

Ellen attended Newton High School. On February 2, 1941, she married Richard J. Beukema. Six children were born to this union. They moved to their farm in Mitchellville in 1946.

She served her church, county and community in many positions to help and serve others. Her Swedish tea ring and lime pickles were big hits at bake sales and with family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 1973; oldest son, Dick in 2014; and her parents. Also by her siblings, Leota (Fred) Murphy, Raymond (Doris) Parker; parents-in-law, Pete and Vera Beukema; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Emery Kaisand, Bonna (Clarence) Wilson, Betty (Bert) Barnes, Byron (Rosemary) Beukema, Wayne (Gladys) Beukema, and Don Lloyd.

Those surviving are her children, Harry (Leticia), Tom (Karen), and Nancy all of Mitchellville, Dale (Sally) of Bondurant, and Pat (Frank) Rouse of Kalona; daughter-in-law, Marilyn of Mitchellville; grandchildren, Brian Beukema, Christine (Todd) Valentine, Dean (Lisa) Beukema, Todd (Dawn) Beukema, Steven Beukema, Sandi Beukema, Bill (Stacy) Beukema, Tamm (Brian) Poffenberger, Lance (Kerri) Rouse, Penny Rouse, Emy (Josh) Miller, Jamie (James) McDaniel and Mike (Amy) Twohey; 31 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sister, Vernadine Kaisand from Grinnell; sisters-in-law, Vera Gay Lloyd and Joann Cooper; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Mitchellville United Methodist Church, 200 2nd St NW, Mitchellville. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home, 303 Center Ave S, Mitchellville. Burial will follow services at Mitchellville Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Mitchellville United Methodist Church, Mitchellville Fire Department and the Mitchellville Community Center.
