William "Bill" Sumpter

William A. Sumpter, 89, passed away at his home in Des Moines on December 26, 2019. He was born in Polk City, Iowa, on November 27, 1930.
Bill proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. In 1953, he married Patty Weishaar and together they made their home in the Saylorville area.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Pat; sons, Dan (Toni) Sumpter and Dwayne Sumpter; grandchildren, Kyle (Tracy), Katie, and Betsy; great-grandchildren, Kolton and Kynlee; his sister, JoAnn (Don) Hevelone; as well as other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Chester; brother, Butch, and sister, Phyllis.
A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., with military honors at 6 p.m., on Monday, December 30, 2019, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines. Urn burial will be held at a later date at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
