Edwin D. Briggs, MSG Ret.

Edwin Dale Briggs, 79, passed away Monday, December 23, 2019 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. Edwin was born November 15, 1940 in Shelby County, Iowa to Frank and Viola (Sorenson) Briggs. He retired from the United States Marine Corps, Quantico, Virginia, after 20 years of service with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. For his service, he earned five Good Conduct Medals, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Republic Campaign Medal, three Meritorious Mast, and Rifle and Pistol Sharpshooter Badges. He retired from Ruan Transportation, Logistics Office after 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his siblings, Mary Shield and Jerry Briggs; children, Marsha Briggs, Mary Baker, and Michael Briggs; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Briggs and his parents, Frank and Viola Briggs.
