Rita Mary Krois

Rita Mary Krois, 83, passed away on December 22, 2019 at Calvin Community in Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 26, from 5 to 7 pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 27, at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church, 1627 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines followed by burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Rita was born May 15, 1936 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She graduated from Wilson High School in St. Paul in 1954.

Rita married her childhood sweetheart, Don, on September 14, 1957 and they reached the amazing milestone of 60 years together in 2017. Rita spent many years working in the office at Valley High School. Her greatest job, however, was that of “Mom”. Rita and Don raised five boys, and she spent her time going on summer family vacations and attending as many of her kids and grandkids activities as she could. Rita would also enjoy spending time with Don, traveling and visiting a local casino from time to time.

Rita is survived by her sons, Don (Lisa), Dave (Marcia), Rick (Carol), John (Joni), and Rod (Kelly); grandchildren, Phillip, Allison (Jay Koontz), Stephanie, Nicole, Ann, Nathan, Kelsey, Madison, Adam, Ryan, and Claire Krois; and great-grandchildren Leo Koontz and one due in April.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Julian Krois and her parents Marcian Joseph Collins and Rosemary Margaret (Raas) Collins.
